Importance Of Insurance Shopping By Teens

28 July 2010 No Comment

We always teach our children about growing up in life and their various responsibilities. But by the time they grow old enough to get their driving license, we still wish to sit by their bed side and want to tuck them inside their beds after their prayers. Not only teenagers go through troubles and changes but parents also go through a variety of changes in their life. Our heart is filled with pride when we see them getting their driver?s license successfully.

The initial joy and pride when your child obtains the driver?s license will soon be over when the reality of insurance costs sets in. the family income may be stretched to the limit by these new insurance costs. The only consolation perhaps is the emergence of insurance companies, which claim to be teen friendly.

This question is as far, as the parent, as we should go in investigating insurance prices and policies for our teenagers. Our teen, son or daughter, has taken the responsibility of getting his or her driver’s license. We have to believe that to some extent they are maturing and ready for new responsibilities. It is time for them to do some of the work involved. Investigating costs and prices of insurance policies might actually be an eye opener for them. It may even help them take driving more seriously if they know all of the details involved. Putting them on the right track is our job. We should point them toward the internet and suggest they do the insurance shopping themselves.

You can guide them with the important features that should be looked for and the ways of comparing them. The important factor that should be taken into account is who would be bearing the monthly insurance payment. If you are going to bear the cost, then make sure that you child does not stop with the first quote they get. See that they look for few more quotes and also let them know that they would be bearing the insurance payment on a day directly or indirectly.

In order for them to get good results, you should provide them with some guiding principles on what they should be looking for and how to compare different policies. To ensure they do a thorough research let them know they will be involved in the payment of the monthly insurance premiums. If you are the one paying the bill, try to get some indirect ways for the cost to come back to the teenager. This way they will do a comprehensive research trying to get the most attractive quote.

The responsibility of doing their own insurance shopping, will give the teen the impression that you are trying to treat them like an adult and that you are giving them some amount of trust. Knowing this, they are more likely to relay that trust to their responsibility when behind the wheel of the car.

By letting the teenagers shop and pay for their insurance, they will understand the costs involved in having different types of vehicles. Therefore, they can easily understand why they cannot have those flashy cars they are always dreaming about.
